Shamanic Journey
Presenter: Bill Oram
Web:  www.thecircleofthesacredwell.org
Shamanic journeying has been a part of many cultures for thousands of years.  Experienced practitioners would journey to the spirit world in order to speak with the spirits and divine beings there on behalf of their communities.  Shamanic journeying has become a part of the New Age movement in this country, although the meaning and purpose of the journeys has changed.  Today's shamanic journeys are typically more individualistic, with individuals journeying to the spirit world in order to gain personal insight and for personal growth.  Today's workshop will discuss the ancient practice of shamanic journeying and cover the current use and purpose of shamanic journeying in this country.  Attendees will also take part in a shamanic journey during the workshop.

NOTE:  This workshop will be taught in a wooded clearing.  Please wear suitable walking shoes and bring a pillow or blanket to sit on.

Olawan Yuhamani
Walking with Song ~ An Hour of Lakota Music and Stories
Presenter:  Lori-Ann Locke & Jeanne Palagonia
If you are interested in traditional Native American stories and music, then you will love this circle, which is appropriate for all ages. Please bring a drum, rattle or other instrument with you if you have one. Why does ‘possum have a bald tail? Why are there Lakota honoring songs for creatures such as spiders and bats? How did the Eagle save humankind? Why do pine trees stay green year-round. Find out the answers to these questions and learn some Lakota songs as well, in this one-hour presentation.  Educational hand-outs will be offered in addition to literature on the issues and challenges facing the people of Pine Ridge today, and the ways that you can be a friend to the Lakota people.

"In the beginning of all things, wisdom and knowledge were with the animals; for Tirawa, the One Above, did not speak directly to man. He sent certain animals to tell men that he showed himself through the beasts, and that from them, and from the stars, and the sun, and the moon, man should learn. Tirawa spoke to man through his works.."   ~~~ Chief Letakots-Lesa, Pawnee Tribe~~

About the presenters:

Lori-Ann and Jeanne are friends and advocates of the Lakota nation. They sponsor several elders and families through the ONE SPIRIT organization. They have a long history and personal ties with the people of Pine Ridge, especially the Porcupine district.  They wish to do their part to make the general public aware of both the beauty of this culture and the contemporary issues that threaten its future existence.

Lori-Ann and Jeanne do not claim to be “medicine women” nor do they claim to represent the Lakota nation or any other native nation in any official capacity.

Landscaping for Wildlife
Creating a Backyard Wildlife Sanctuary
Presenter:  Lori-Ann Locke ~ Wildlife Gardener

Habitat loss is a major threat to our native birds.  As a result, 50 % of Connecticut's native bird species are declining, and 17 % are on the States Endangered, Threatened and Special Concern List.  That is:  50 out of 290 regularly or annually occurring bird species in Connecticut are on this list.  Bees, via pollination, are responsible for 15 to 30 percent of the food U.S. consumers eat.  But, in the last 50 years, the domesticated honeybee population - which most farmers depend on for pollination  - has declined by about 50 percent, scientists say.  Unless action is taken to slow the decline of domesticated honeybees and to augment their populations with wild bees, many fruits and vegetables may disappear from the food supply.  What can you do?  With a little effort, you can improve your property's usefulness as a wildlife habitat, while at the same time preserving plants that are native to Connecticut.  You don't need a lot of space to create a garden that supports wildlife, propagates indigenous plants and helps to increase honeybee populations. The presenters will guide you through the steps necessary to make your property more 'wildlife-friendly.'
